How to Care for Your Handcrafted Wooden Furniture

A well-made piece of wooden furniture is an investment. With proper care, it doesn't age — it matures. The grain deepens, the finish develops character, and the piece becomes more beautiful over time.

Daily Care

  • Dust regularly with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Always wipe in the direction of the grain.
  • Avoid wet cloths — standing water can lift the grain and dull the finish over time.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight where possible — prolonged exposure fades and dries the wood.

Oil Finishing

Our pieces are finished with natural oil (not lacquer or polyurethane). This means: 1. The wood breathes and feels alive under your hand 2. Scratches and marks are easy to address — re-oil and the mark disappears 3. The finish can be renewed at home every 1–2 years

**How to re-oil:** Apply a thin coat of linseed or teak oil with a lint-free cloth. Let it soak in for 15 minutes, then wipe off the excess. One coat is usually enough.

Pakistan-Specific Tips

Karachi's humidity can cause minor expansion in wood during the monsoon — this is normal. Ensure pieces aren't placed directly against walls with condensation or in rooms with extreme humidity fluctuations.

Addressing Scratches

Light scratches in oil-finished wood respond well to fine sandpaper (320 grit) followed by re-oiling. Work with the grain, not against it.

The Long View

Wooden furniture that's maintained properly becomes an heirloom. It outlasts flat-pack furniture by decades. When you care for a Woodrix piece, you're caring for something built to outlast you.
